托卡马克等离子体辐射的电磁波谱覆盖了可见光波段,因此可以使用原本用于研究汽车碰撞、特级摄影等商业目的的可见光波段高速相机来诊断托卡马克等离子体。目前,SUNIST装置上安装了一台Red Lake公司生产的MotionPro X4高速相机。其主要参数为:

为获得最佳的观察效果,还需要恰当地选用与相机配对的镜头。如果需要获得最大的视角,可以使用鱼眼镜头。使用普通的监控用镜头便可以方便地获取到整个等离子体环截面的图像,这是球形托卡马克的一大优点。目前SUNIST配备的是焦距6~12 mm、光圈F1.2、适用于1/3"传感器的C-Mount镜头。
